Biography
Olaiya Igwe’s real name is Lukman Ebun Oloyede. He was born on 27 July 1957 in Kenta, Abeokuta, in Ogun State, Nigeria. He went to St. Jude’s Primary School in Abeokuta, then to Premier Grammar School for secondary education. He later studied Mass Communication at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. In 2022, he graduated from Crescent University, Abeokuta.
Career
Olaiya Igwe has been working in the film industry for more than forty years. He began in theatre and stage plays in the 1970s, including with the Musbau Shodimu Theatre Organisation. Over time he moved into movies, directing and producing in addition to acting.
He has appeared in over one hundred films and has produced more than twenty. Some of his notable works include Ololade (Mr Money), Iru Esin, Kosi Tabi Sugbon, Baale Oko Ilu, Oga Olopa, Abela Pupa, and he acted in the TV show Awon Aladun De. He has also faced challenges such as losing large amounts of money to piracy in his projects.
Personal Life
Olaiya Igwe is married and has children. One of his children, Ridwan Oloyede, is reportedly pursuing music. He has in the past spoken publicly about his tribal marks—how he felt about them and how they affected him. In 2022 he received a Mercedes-Benz vehicle as a gift, which drew public attention.
