Biography
Jack Rafe Flaherty was born on October 15, 1995 in Burbank, California. He throws and bats right-handed. In high school at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles, he starred as a pitcher and position player. He was drafted in the first round, 34th overall, by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2014.
Career
Flaherty made his Major League debut on September 1, 2017, for the Cardinals. He spent several seasons in St. Louis, showing flashes of dominance, especially in 2019 when he recorded an 11-8 record with a 2.75 ERA and struck out many batters. After dealing with injuries, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in August 2023.
In late 2023, he signed with the Detroit Tigers for 2024. Midway through 2024, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he helped the team in the postseason and started in the World Series. In early 2025, he agreed to a two-year, $35 million contract to return to the Tigers, with an opt-out clause after the first year.
Over his MLB career to date, he has recorded a win–loss record in the 60’s, a career ERA near 3.80, and over 1,100 strikeouts.
